It was a new laptop.
I called Dell and requested for a trade-up, and got a newer laptop.
But the crashes still came hard and fast.
So I called Microsoft and told them that the same issue was happening with a new laptop too.
Since then, they identified the issue to be a very old 32-bit freeware that I had - zshell.
I stopped using that software altogether and my last crash was 16 days ago.
Keeping my fingers crossed now.....

Frankly, that sounds like a hardware problem; I would run SMART diagnostics on your hard drive, and Memtest86 to verify that you don't have a failing RAM DIMM. If it is neither of those, try a system file repair from the windows installation disk.

Far be it from me to polish Microsofts turds, But windows 7 is actually a very stable platform - it is likely your problem lies elsewhere. If those 8 years of XP and 6 months of Windows 7 occurred on the same hardware, it no surprise that your hardware would be wearing out. If you got a new machine with Win7 loaded on it when all your problems started, then I'd still guess bum hardware.

Agree - a non working product and non-existent support. Error messages and double and triple calendar entries... Support did not respond in 3 days and product names and functionality seem to change like a baby's diaper. Ridiculous.

Uhm, no, this is no reason to stick with 32bit windows. Pywin32 seems to work just fine under win64 -- and you don't have to put up with the ridiculous non-reason for not being able to address more than about 3.2 gig of memory (it's a licensing issue, not an OS capabilities issue -- 32bit Linux has done 16 gig memory since the 2.4 days and there's a hackity hack to get > 4 gig addressable (but only 2 gig per process) on win32... but I digress).

Trust me. Win7 64bit is what you want. Leave 32bit OSes where they belong: in the past.
